Nestled in historic Monmouth County, Farmingdale Elementary School has been delivering quality education to the community of Farmingdale for many years. Known as "Today's Town...with Yesterday's Touch", Farmingdale, and its Main Street, dates back to an Indian path toward the Manasquan River. In 1830, construction of a Manasquan River dam led to the discovery of a 4-mile triangler deposit of Marl centered in Farmingdale, then "Marsh's Bog". The natural bed of fertilizer, benefical to farm crops, promoted development of the Squankum Railroad and Marl Company in 1866.
Two hotels functioned as stagecoach stops between Freehold and Squan Village. During both the American Revolution and the Civil War, the men of Marsh's Bog were trained and stationed at a local tavern as Monmouth Militia. In 1856, an iron foundry, in turn, became a carriage factory, the Mueller Piano Company, and a catsup factory. Other Main Street merchants were: a saw mill, a harness shop, a realtor, a millinery shop and a popular candy store whose advertisements were written in sugar on the front walk.
Now 100 years later, governed by a Mayor and Borough Council, Farmingdale, at 0.5 square miles in land area, is an established residential and light industrial community of approximately 1500+ residents.
Our school is a vital part of our community and will continue to offer a unique experience for all students who attend. We offer each of our students a safe, secure, and developmentally appropriate environment that stimulates creativity and fosters intellectual growth. We are committed to the whole child. New science indicates the intellectual life of a child cannot be separated from the other areas of development. Social, emotional, and physical growth are integral to the young child's ability to learn.
Our teachers attend classes, workshops, and conferences to continue their professional development. Information is shared amongst the staff and resources are added to our school library.
